Is it too much to ask? Seriously... is it too much?
I got in the car today and heard "Feliz Navidad" playing over my favorite station. Thinking it was a little fluke or promo, I kept it on... right through Elvis' "Blue Christmas" and Nat's "Christmas Song." Somewhere in the middle of an orchestral "Joy to the World," I turned off the radio.
I love Christmas music - ask Mr. Kenobi, who thinks there's entirely too much around this house after Thanksgiving. :) I also understand the concept of celebrating Jesus' birth all year long, but seriously - Elvis? Nat? Is it too much to ask that we wait on this music until - I dunno - NOVEMBER?!?
It's Halloween. Playing Christmas music is just a bit creepy.

It should be illegal to play it until after Halloween. Otherwise I will never get to hear the Monster Mash!
a friend told me yesterday that the local christian radio station played christmas music all day... and that the djs were insisting the unseasonal tunes were the station's "costume." i'm hardly a grinch; the bailey family tradition is to break-out the christmas decorations before the turkey has been cleared from the table. however, i must confess... trick-or-treating to the lullaby of silent night is exactly as you describe it -
creepy.
Maddening! I love the Christmas season as much as anyone and have been known to purchase new holiday CDs when they are released in September or October or November or whenever (who needs to pre-listen to your favorite crooners, right?), but the rule in our house is that you cannot play them until the day after Thanksgiving. I even caught myself looking at the stack the other day thinking "I can play you soon!!!"- But I do not agree with the preempting of other holidays to promotion the “retailing” of Christmas. Sadly, Christmas paraphernalia has been out at many stores since the Halloween items made their way on to the shelves. It has only garnered a larger foothold in the available space today- or was that Wednesday afternoon they said enough with Halloween and moved in the Christmas trees? And whatever happened to Thanksgiving?
Our Aussie household loves Christmas. The thing that freeks me out the most is when the stores have halloween, thanks giving and Christmas decorations all out at once. I feel traumatised by it and find myself in early october buying decorations for the Christmas tree, as stuffed turkey cushion for the lounge and a pumpkin lamp all in one day. I supose one good thing comes from this and that is I have finished my Christmas shopping and am free to go to the after thanks giving sales and buy shoes : )
mal - that song was stuck in my head all day long. :)
whitney - interesting "costume" concept; I didn't hang around long enough to hear an explanation.. :)
auntie em - you & I share that love of all things holiday. I'm glad I'll get to see you soon!
aussie mum - way to bring up the silver lining!
