your definition

"Hey Mama, do you know what compassion means?"
 - Obi-1, age 4+

This question came between bites of peanut-butter & jelly sandwich, in one of those wonderful, spontaneous moments of motherhood.

I think I do know what it means.
When I asked for his thoughts, he gave a really sweet & true definition.  It made me think about other responses.  So, I'm posing a question, rather than an answer today.

Do you know what compassion means?

What do you say?

An email I got went something like this......
The elderly neighbour next door was sitting on the porch of his house watching life go by a few days after his wife of 50 something years had passed away. Upon seeing him for the first time since his wife's death Miss 5 rushed over to see him started to chat and then hopped up on his lap and began to snuggle in and stroke his hand. When asked what she had been doing she replied.......................
"I just cuddled him and let all the sad come out"
