The tickle monster starts small, with a quick wiggle of her fingers behind the ear or under the shoulder. Laughter starts at their toes and crescendos from squeaks to shrieks and giggles. These are joyous, contagious laughs - the best sound on earth.
At first, the tickle monster must actually make contact. Sometimes we play guitar; they're the instrument, with their ribs the strings. Eventually it just takes one look at my wiggly fingers to get them laughing. 'Round and 'round the house they'll run, laughing and demanding more tickle monster. I sit, and wait, and flutter my fingertips as they come near.
