The Kenobi house had a great weekend, filled with big highlights. I'm typing quickly to get a few things done during nap time, including dinner for friends who had a baby last week. Hopefully this can give you an update without too many typos. :)
First, the biggest, tallest news of all: Mr. Kenobi, bless his wonderful and endearing heart, decided it was time to let the boys have their bunk beds. Never mind that the CPSC recommends children under 6 not be permitted to sleep in such contraptions. Anecdotally, lots of kids we know enjoy their bunk beds at younger ages. Mr. Kenobi & his brothers had them when he was little, and our setup is, admittedly, pretty safe. Nonetheless, my fear of heights came into play, and I staged an only-other-mamas-will-understand protest about the idea. It was quickly subdued, as so many northwestern protests are these days.
"Mama, we have really big and tall beds!" (Obi-1)
The twin beds we got for them last summer convert easily to bunk beds, which is an obvious plus. A few bolts and assembly procedures after the protest-turned-joint decision, and the boys had a veritable castle in their room. Obi-1 is thrilled to be able to touch the ceiling from bed. Obi-2 loves being "in the middle," which of course is the most accurate description of where he sleeps: between his mattress and his brother's bed. :)
The amazing part is how large their room really is! When we moved here, we left a 752-square foot home. As you know if you've visited, this house is quite a bit more spacious. (If you haven't visited, perhaps you're still worried about losing your socks?) Anyway, the boys' room is much, much, much more spacious than the little Ballard nursery we had a year ago. What a blessing! We have a little chair for story-time, and the books & puzzles have a home upstairs, rather than in the basement playroom. Once "Narnia" is finished they'll have even more space to hang out and play ("Narnia" is a small closet-like space off the bedroom).
I feel like we've moved to the suburbs. Well, except, you know, without all of the drawbacks of urban sprawl. (Sorry for the jab, my many many many dear friends who are suburbanites! :) )
In other news, the boys have grown. Obi-2 announced Saturday, "I'm bigger today." Sure enough, he is! Our little guy is now 35 7/8 inches tall - almost two inches taller than his 2nd birthday three months ago. Not to be outdone, Obi-1 has grown an 1 & 1/4 inches in the same time.
"What are you feeding those boys?" you ask. Blueberries. Lots and lots of fresh-picked blueberries. But that will have to wait for another story, because the boys have woken from nap time & we're off to fun adventures!

Thanks for the fun update! And this mama SO undertands the bunk bed fight. We have the same setup -- twin beds that turn into bunk beds. I'm not ready yet. We've told the boys that we'll do it when they're seven! :-)
LOVE those fresh-picked blueberries. AND the suberbs, thank-you-very-much!! ;-) I'm glad your new home is working out well for you.
NoPo has some big, beautiful houses. And around the Broadway Neighborhood/Lloyd Center area in NE? Sheesh. McMansions. It makes sense, that's where the fancy folk lived when P-town was Stumptown and people were still getting shanghai'd down the tunnels.
Isn't it awesome how kids seem to shoot up overnight? Or it is until you try to get them dressed for church and realize at 8 a.m. on Sunday that all their pants are two inches too short! lol
Congrats to the boys on their big boy beds and my sympathies to you, I definitely qualify as a paranoid mama. Narnia sounds awesome. (Oh, btw, Lili is a great babysitter. lol)
LM - so many of my friends & family are "suburbanites," so I tease without malice. :) I sure wish we lived close enough so the boys could play together.
Mal - I think I know where you're talking about, and that area is beautiful. Hmmm... good to know about Lili. A babysitter I arrange over the internet? What's next - online dating? ;)
