going places

For quite a while, both Mr. Kenobi & I have hoped we might be sent on a mission.  We've found, in spite of never traveling to some of the places we hoped to work, that God has sent us out for His purposes. Still, we have hope we might also be able to go into other areas of the world. Recently, it seemed we received an answer.

A short-term mission trip is being planned for this summer.  There is an existing organization in Mexico, and they put on "park games" and VBS programs.  They are looking for people who would like to support and bless their efforts, and kids would be a welcome part of the effort.  It seems like an incredible chance to serve outside our neighborhood, and the boys could be part of our faith-filled adventure.

In the meantime, we're making plans and praying for wisdom.  One of the pieces we must finish is getting passports for all of the Kenobis.  Mine has expired, and the boys don't have them.  So, I was filling out the applications yesterday when Obi-1 (four years old) came into the office.

"What are you doing?"  he asked.

"I'm filling out a form, so we can go on a long airplane trip to be missionaries.  Would you like to be a missionary?"

His response was opposite of the usual grown-up's: "Yes."  Only after enthusiastically agreeing to go did he ask earnestly, "What's a missionary?"

I thought carefully.  "A missionary is somebody who goes out and tells others about God, so people can know that Jesus loves them."

He put on his scrunched-up thoughtful face.  I could tell he was processing this, and perhaps reconsidering his quick "Yes" answer earlier.

"And we have to go on an airplane for that?"

Funny.  The truth, the wisdom, and the reminder was well-timed.  I'm not sure if we'll be sent on this trip, though I do hope so.  My son, however, seems to have perspective that we don't have to go anywhere to find people who need to know they're loved.

I love the way Obi-1 thinks : )So true about having many people around us that need to know that they are loved. For example our neighbour that has a domestic violence order on their front door. We discovered this when we delivered home made Jesus loves you Valentine's Day cookies : (

Miss K believes that if everyone used their "listening ears" they would all be able to hear Jesus taking to them about how lovely they are and they would feel better."

Joining you in prayer for wisdom

Aussie Mom, your daughter is beautiful & wise. I hope you are given more opportunities to love your neighbors - they are lucky to have you nearby!
