on speaking too soon

I understand why some people can believe in karma.  I don't believe it, but I do get it.

See, I posted that little ditty about the boys being all well & healthy.  Maybe I was even a bit whiny about feeling sick myself.  Then, -*BAM!*- Obi-2's fever came back with a vengeance.  His ear hurts again, his tonsils are swollen and messy, and he's absolutely miserable. He was up much of the night, mostly in our bed, and nobody got much rest.

This morning, our doctor called to check on him.  Obi-2's strep culture confirmed the initial "rapid" test.  After visiting a bit, our doctor is convinced that whatever Obi-2 is fighting is bacterial.  It shouldn't be taking him this long to recover, given all we're doing to help his immune system fight.  He definitely shouldn't be getting worse, which seems to be the case.  So, for the first time in either boy's life, we have a prescription for kid's penicillin.  Both Dr. "Gramov" & I are reluctant to offer kids drugs, but all signs point to the need here.

Speaking of penicillin, I figured today is as good as any to clean out the fridge. How nice to recover my tupperware collection.  I can also see how very little food we actually have on hand.

In related news, I learned a few more lessons from motherhood last night:
  1. When your child likes to sleep sideways, hope it's his hot little head that juts into your side, and not the hot little toenail side.  I wasn't so lucky last night.

  2. Obi-2 likes my pillow.  Specifically, the middle of my pillow creates ideal sleeping conditions for my 2-year-old.   I do not sleep well without a pillow.

  3. When the boys were babies, we had a "family bed."  This worked well when they were little, but now everyone is happier with them in bunk beds.  As confirmed last night, I do not sleep well in a family bed.

  4. Mr. Kenobi was well enough to go to work today.  Perhaps it will be a little more restful than life around here.  Certainly there should be less whining in an engineering office.

  5. A refill prescription can be ordered online and picked up at a drive-through window.  A new prescription takes 30 minutes of waiting in person.

  6. I now understand why my mom would rent loads of videos when we were sick. I'm usually against TV-watching.  Not today.  It is one of the few sane ways to pass the time & keep everyone resting.
At the moment, they are napping, and I may go join them (in my own bed, with my own pillow!) Later, I have puzzles and a couple new card games to try out with them after naps.  Please, Lord, oh please please please, let them sleep a while.  We all need to recover.

love,
MamaToo
