I was thinking about my reaction time to the boys, and how it seems related to a few factors. Then I read Daring Young Mom's general parental education, and couldn't stop laughing. She even had visual aids and graphs.
All I can say is, "Yes. Exactly."

So I thought of another factor. I think I may have to come up with a new graph. Frequency of attacks. Even the small sincere whimper, if employed to frequently, severly inhibits my sympathy hormones. (There's such a thing as a sympathy hormone, right? Of course there is! It's on the internet.)
