saying thanks

Do you love writing thank you notes? I enjoy letting others know I appreciated their generousity, though notes aren't always my strength. When I'm the giver, I really don't like anyone thinking I'm going to judge them or hinge my future generousity on how they thank me.

From crayon pictures, to pre-made cards, to digital photos, it's fun to make thank you's personalized. Recently, I thought a creative way to thank somebody might be a little digital video of the boys. They're still so young that writing their own notes is not possible (although a hand-colored drawing has been popular). A video seemed like a personal way to say thanks.

Sure, it's not sent in the "regular" mail. It did take a bit of effort (probably more than writing a note) to put together, and I thought it was very personal. Unfortunately, I was reminded (by the recipient) that a written note will still be appreciated, and probably expected.

I guess we're not all ready for e-thank yous, eh?

Oh goodness..

I love writing and receiving Thank You notes. I don't expect them, but it makes me think very highly of the person sending it. Even if it is a MySpace message...I just like knowing it's appreciated. I think the video idea is cute...I guess it's all in who you send it to. :)

I can't believe the irony of someone telling you essentially that your thank you wasn't adequate. I think it was creative and awesome and allowed your kids to really feel how good it feels to say thank you. Well done in my book.

I thought that this was a wonderful idea as it got the boys directly involved in saying "thank-you for_______" When they are old enough, it is likely that you will incorporate more "traditional" thank-yous into their repertoire (personally I like this plan better), in the meantime, for those of us that do not get to see the boys daily, I think a video is a welcome addition to the too infrequent pictures, emails and phone calls.
