My boys get regular "unsupervised" time with Grandma. By unsupervised, I mean that we're not there to tell her what she cannot do with them, what they cannot watch, or what time they should be in bed.
- Grandma loves those boys like no other babysitter could.
- Grandma knows our house quite well, so she can make herself at home here. She also knows where the food is, what our daily routine looks like, and where to find necessities like "fuzzy juice" or extra pajamas.
- She frequently brings food or treats over for them, things I would otherwise not have in my house.
- Mr. Kenobi & I get frequent dates without paying a babysitter. We can enjoy food or adventures we otherwise might not have tried together.
- She drives herself and frequently stays overnight. We can go out and enjoy our time together, without worrying what time we need to get home or when the babysitter needs to get taken home.
In the near future, Grandma may be moving. She & Grandpa have been "commuting" between two states (and their respective jobs in each) for a few months, now. Understandably, they're getting tired of the long-distance relationship, and it looks like Grandma may have finally decided to go where he lives. We're pretty sad about that change for many reasons, including the thoughts I've listed here.
